Don't Talk to Strangers

Thursday, January 28, 2010

When you are married with four kids running around you have to take what you can when it comes to stolen moments and alone time.  BDC and I often take off to the grocery store together and leave Kenna in charge of the boys.  It's not romantic, but hey,  there is plenty of time alone in the car before running into the crazies at the store.

Earlier this week hubs and I ventured out to pick up a few things.  Why is it that every time I say I just need a few things I end up spending $200?  I digress...

Anyshop, we have a special relationship.  We banter back and forth like two little kids.  We were having a tit for tat insult trading session over some nice apples and oranges whilst feeling up some nice pears.  I can't remember the particular trade of witicisms because of what happened next.

Hubs said something particularly funny and I was giggling.  Out of nowhere this lady comes up and puts her hand on my arm.  Screech!  *ding ding ding*  My personal space has just been invaded.  She smiles and says, "You two are so cute together.  I love the way you look at each other."

Hubs looks at me and then her and half smiles while spitting out an "Um...thanks?"

Crazy Touchy Feely Lady:  "You're newly weds huh?  How long have you been married?"

Me and hubs bust out laughing.

Me:  "We have been married for 8 and together for several more than that."

Crazy Touchy Feely Lady:  "What's your secret?  You two still look at each other like it's new."

Hubs deadpan:  "Hookers."

We all laughed.  I told her we liked each other and that we always make each other laugh.  She walked on and finally moved her hand off my arm.

Hubs was like "how do you know her?"

Me:  "I don't."

Hubs:  "Guess I should've held off on the hooker comment huh?"

Me:  "Naw...it was funny."

Hubs:  "Well...it was that or tell her we were brother and sister."

OMG I'm dying here. Somehow your and the hubby's humor always perfectly tickles my funny bone. I really do wish you'd gone with the brother and sister comment, but if I was in the same spot I'm pretty sure I would have said hookers too :-)

I've been asked that question about what's my secret for staying with my hubby (10 years now)... I always say his mother pays me, or "well once you get herpes you have to stay together, right?" LOL

Ew to her touching you! This is my dance space, that is your dance space...

That's only acceptable and flattering if it was an elderly lady.

Otherwise, just creepy.

That was a good line by hubs. Of course, his plan B option was good too.

Okay, that was HILARIOUS. But I, too, hate it when people come too far into my space. Stand back already!!

I so wish he had said you were brother and sister! :)

I might have been inclined to kick her in the crotch for touching me, but I love love love the hooker comment. His brother/sister comment would have been hilarious too!

Just read the hookers bit out to hubby. Now I have to clean up the coffee he snorted out his nose off the floor. Thanks ZGirl!!!

I had a funny story to tell, but it went out of my head when I got caught up in feeding your fish on the side bar.

Darn! I'm getting old and losing my memory.

How cute!
that happened to Hubby and I at the airport two years ago. We loved to hold hands everywhere. We were laughing our asses off at a joke I had just told him; we were still discussing when this lady asked us if we were on our honeymoon.

I'm amazed by couples that still like each other after a long time together.

I think there's something wrong with me....I don't like anyone if I have to spend more than a full 48 hours with them. Seriously...

Ok the kids might be the exception to that rule...but only sometimes.

You and hubs are too cute. Way to think on your feet there hubby!

Aww this was funny but cute too! The fact you both fondle fruit so lovingly together is quite touching. No wonder why sweet touchy lady wanted to get in on that action! hehe

I'm thinking of you tonight (not in the pervy creepy sense) Hugs to you and Hubs!

Haha! That's hilarious! It actually sounds like something my husband would say. He tends to do things like that to embarrass me, though. Not for pure wit and humor.

haha so much fun! Except the personal space. ACK

The hubs and I have our only alone time on the way to the store too . . . . *sigh*

But we make the best of it. . . well not THE best but you know what I mean.

LOL

I can just imagine the alternate scenario playing out.
"It helps to have things in common, like parents"
"Oh, your parents are similar?"
"No, her parents are my parents."

You handled it well---I'd have freaked out if some stranger grabbed me in the grocery store!

As creepy as the random lady was I hope it made you feel good at the same time. It's a rare thing these days.

I too run errands with Sparky, I agree that 10 minutes in the car is sometimes the most "us" time we get.

Oh that is high-larious! My husband would die if I ever did something like that.

Last week in Wal-mart Jim and I were just walking hand in hand, picking at this doing that kind of stuff and a young couple stopped us and said something about how long we'd been married, we looked happy....Just out of the blue, not sure why I thought we looked pretty normal for someone that's been married 30 years. Jim just looked at me and smiled I just said, he makes me happy.
It did make our day however.
Gonna check out the rest of your goodness. Thanks for sharing.
God Bless!!!

That's too funny! It makes me grateful that me and my brother are obviously related. There's been a few times strangers have enjoyed out banter and out of nowhere would say "you two are soooo funny." We always both just stare at the stranger deadpan until they turn away...maybe we should say something next time :) Love the story!

Sorry I missed this post B! My head has been in other places the last few days and I think I'm beyond running on fumes....

Anyfart - I love this! This is what makes you and BDC such a phenomenal powerhouse. The two of you are no match for the world. Keep on lovin' and grabbin' and showing all the rest of the dried up saps in the world how its suppose to be done!

LONG LIVE PDA

OMG that would have freaked me out with some stranger touching me and invading my space that way - but what a nice thing of her to say and I had to LOL about the hubby's comment! TOO FUNNY! :o)

Cute story. Usually, people stare and me and my wife and just shake their heads, either in sadness or in disgust. We have four kids, too. As of this moment, anyway. I might kill them all at any moment. Kids are stressful.

Funny! Can I get your hooker's number?

Mae Rae said...

holy freaking funny posts, clarisa. I totally would have freaking said brother and sister. That is great! However, I would probably be more apt to laugh like that with #8 than with hubby. Usually I am telling him (the hubby) to stop riding the cart in the grocery store and have to apologize to people for "my mentally challenged brother".
