Deck the Halls with Peanut Butter Balls

Thursday, December 10, 2009

Yeah for another post containing BALLS!  You all have pointed out that we have had a week full of balls, balls, balls.  Well, tis the season I say.  Let's Deck the Halls and all that jazz.

I have taken the liberty of finding a few photos for the post as well.  Nothing says merriment like a good dirty joke, no?

Don't forget tomorrow is Friday.  I will be back to Friday Follies and Fun Facts.  I'll see what disturbing and useless facts I can dig up for the holiday season.  I know with all the parties you all will be needing some useless facts to throw out at parties.

Yesterday I had the following conversation with my 10yr old Kooper.

Kooper:  Mom, we need to celebrate Hanukkah this year.
Me:  We celebrate Christmas, we are not Jewish.
Koop:  We can celebrate both.
Me:  No, Jewish people don't celebrate Christmas, we do not celebrate Hanukkah.
Koop:  My friend is celebrating both, and he gets lots of presents for Hanukkah, and get's Christmas.
Now, I know this friend.  His mom is Catholic, dad is Jewish.  They do celebrate both.  I am sending them a fruitcake laced with Drain-O for "the holiday season".
Me:  Yes, that family has a religious identity crisis.
Koop:  Mom, that was inappropriate.
Me:  You're right son, I am sorry.
Koop:  So, can we celebrate both?
Me: No.
Koop:  Why not?
Me:  We are not Jewish.
Koop: laughing "I would convert for all those gifts."
Me: THAT was inappropriate.
Koop:  But it was funny.
Me:  Touche young padawan.
Koop:  Nice one!  Star Wars reference.  I didn't think you had it in you.
Me:  Yeah.  I'm cool like that.
Koop:  Mom, if you were that cool we'd have Christmas and Hanukkah.
Me:  You are officially on the naughty list.
Koop:  I'll stop now.
Me:  Good boy!

Truly people, there is never a dull moment in my house.

So, without further ado.  I give you my peanutbutter ball recipe.

2 cups of CREAMY PeanutButter
2 sticks of BUTTER (don't use margarine) softened to room temperature
1 -2lb bag of Confectioner's (powdered) sugar
1 tsp vanilla

2 - 12oz bags of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 bar of parafin wax

Cream together butter, and peanut butter.  Add vanilla.  Stir in powdered sugar a little at a time until completely combined.
Cover baking sheets with wax paper.
Roll peanut butter mixture into 1in balls.
Melt wax and chocolate chips together over low heat.  Double boiler isn't necessary.  Just be careful not to burn the chocolate.  Stir it often until all the wax is melted and the chocolate is shiny.
Insert toothpicks in the balls and dip them in the chocolate.  Allow to cool in the refrigerator.

That's it folks.  Easy Peasy.  They are creamy and yummy.  Make beautiful gifts too!  :D

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Love,

Think Tank Momma

I have brainwashed myself into thinking that any baked item that has peanut butter in it is "good for me" (sure it is)

Kid trying to scam more presents, I love it!

Peanut butter balls are awesome. I use my mom's recipe that's 150 years old (ok maybe not that old...but it's old)

Love the pictures! What do I make the rest of the man from? What?

So, apparently when I was a kid I wanted my parents to get divorced so I could get two vacations like some of my friends!

My kids want to celebrate both. Imagine that SAME conversation, but I'm saying we aren't Christian. Your friends a freak. THAT'S IT NO GIFTS FOR YOU!

Religious Identity Crisis? HA!
Classic!

I love kid conversations.

Thanks for the recipe.

I can't wait to taste your balls.

err...what?

Your conversation with your son was hilarious! Love it.

And those pb balls- my favorite! Though, I make them the slacker way and just toss them in a bowl of melted chocolate and then scoop them out. They might not look quite as pretty, but it's faster and they still taste yummy.

FYI, dogs love peanut butter balls.

I'm happy about that.

Ok first off, your pictures are hilarious. That Disney princess one made me snort (and I was drinking a Dr. Pepper at the time so it was quite a sight).

Second, I like where your son's head is at. An enterprising young man, I think I recall having a similar conversation with MY parents so long ago.

Third, that recipe sounds amazing. I think I need to see a finished product photo to try and convince myself I can do this without burning the house down ;-)

PS: I don't know if I'm just being "special"... I'm trying to find your button code to put your button on my site. Did I miss it somewhere? Its probably right on the front page... sigh, must stop doing all that meth before playing on the internet...

Peanut butter balls are divine!

Love your son's thinking. I may just swing over to his camp. And, the stockings are hung? Never thought of it quite like that! LOL!

Wow this was quite the post! Humor, dirty jokes and a recipe all in one! Wahooo!

Love the Dill Doe pic - ohmygosh!

Gotta try those balls - but I gotta watch my calories too. I'm having a fat day. Damn Aunt Flo.

(tmi - I know...)

The "dill doe" made me spit Pepsi all over my monitor. Thanks for that!

Then, of course, Hubs wanted to know WTF was so funny. When I showed him, he said "Clever"...meaning he's sorry he didn't think of it first.

You should ask Lee about that "dill doe"...is it kosher???

I should stop now. I really should.

Wait...you eat the wax?
...or am I confused?

That Dill Doe is PRICELESS. LMAO!

The recipe sounds easy except I've never cooked anything involving wax. I'm a little nervous.

Although I have been waxing my cookie for years, does that count?

Nice dialogue. And the image of the princesses is just fantastic.

Oh, I love balls - of any kind! I'm off to the market for a bar of paraffin. And I'm keeping the first batch to myself! Thanks for the recipe.

Ha! I love how kids actually think they can out-logic us. So not happening!

MJenks said...

Yeah, we've been having the Hanukkah versus Christmas debate with the kindergartener. He's fascinated by someone not celebrating Christmas.

He keeps reminding us that Hanukkah starts Friday night at sundown.

Kids say the darndest things...huh! My kids would have loved the little padawan reference...I will have to remember that.

Fruitcake laced with Drain O, great idea! I could see sending my ex-employer cookies laced with ex-lax cuz' I know he would eat them. Wonder if I could somehow modify the PB Ball recipe....

Loved the conversation with son and the Disney Princesses "Silly" pose Christmas card.

I think that recipe is easy enough for me. (Even me!) But it sounds yummy!

I love, love love the dirty ornaments. Hung? SNORT.

Great convo with the offspring. My friend's son has his birthday, Hanukkah, and Christmas back-to-back-to-back. It's a gift orgy.
