Friday Follies and Fun Facts: Mixology

Friday, July 9, 2010

I know it's been ages since I did a Friday Follies and Fun Facts.  You Smackers have missed me imparting useless knowledge upon you haven't you?  Haven't you?

*a rousing Yes! from the crowd erupts with applause*

Well, I thought I would start your weekends off with some fun libation facts.  Sounds like a fabulous idea no?  That's what I thought you bunch of lushes.  I know that I have already covered this topic in FFF Friday before, but there is never a lack of info in the mind of the Think Tank Master.  Oh know!  (I got my pun on today too!)  If you want to visit the original you can find it here.

Now...on to the facts.  Just the facts ma'am. <---killing myself with the punny today

1.)  Tequila does NOT have a worm.  It is in fact Mezcal or Mescal(Americans) which contains a "worm".  Actually, it isn't even a worm.  It's the larval form of the Hypopta Agavis that is found living on the maguey plants which Mezcal is made from, which is a form of agave plant.  Some Mezcal is made from only maguey, and other is a mix of agave and maguey.  Tequila started out as a higher grade version of Mezcal.  Kinda like Cognac is to Brandy.

2.)  Since we just celebrated Independence Day, it is noteworthy to mention, Thomas Jefferson wrote the first draft of Declaration of Independence in a tavern.  John Hancock, who signed the final document first was an alcohol dealer.  Among the most notable of the signers were a bar tender, a whiskey distiller, a vineyard owner and a brewer.

3.) MODERATE consumption of alcohol does not destroy brain cells, in fact, it is often associated with improved cognitive function.

enough facts....on to the fun follies

"It takes only one drink to get me drunk.  The trouble is I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or the fourteenth."  ~George Burns

"People who drink down their sorrows should be told sorrow know how to swim." ~Ann Landers

"The best beer is where priests go to drink.  For a quart of Ale is a dish for a King." -A Winter's Tale ~William Shakespeare

"Sometimes too much to drink is barely enough." ~Mark Twain

So...Smackers...can you guess why we had this edition of Friday Follies and Fun Facts??  First correct answer gets a prize from me.

Be here tomorrow for the answer!  I'll announce the winner, and I have something special to announce.

(Disclaimer:  Sorry bb bishes you are excluded from the game because you already know the answer.  That means you too Buffee.)

In that case, I am going to be becoming smarter right around 6:30 tonight!

There is a bottle of Mezcal on my desk that someone bought back for me from Mexico. It has a worm and totally grosses me out whenever I look at it!

I know I know! But I don't count!

It's nice to know that our "founding fathers" were a bunch of drunk buggers! Somehow it makes me feel better about myself! HA!

I have no idea.

But I had to bypass the filters at work just so I could read this post, cause I love the fact & follies posts you do.
:)

Speaking of signers of the Declaration of Independence/brewers....My son's name....Samuel Adams.

Thank you, thank you very much.

I knew there was a reason for the genius I experience when intoxicated. You know, 'table dancing is a great idea', 'you can totally jump from this high', 'take your top off, what could possibly happen'.
