Friday Follies and Fun Facts: Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Friday, July 30, 2010

Happy Friday Smackers.  Once again it's time to fill your minds with random shit that really makes no difference at all and will only give you satisfaction in knowing it if you are um....well, strange like me.

Normally I try to theme these, but if you have read my blog this week at all you know that this ADD Momma has spent waaaaaaay too much time with three little ADD boys and my brain is frazzled so.....this is my brain "unplugged" if you will.  What you see is what you get and that's all random all the time.

This is what BDC commonly refers to as a brain dump.  <----yes, he means it that way.  (Brain dumps cause diarrhea of the mouth.  Or so I've been told.)

Hold on to your hats folks and try to keep up....here we go!

~ The whip was the first thing invented that broke the sound barrier.

~ Nine pennies weigh exactly one ounce.

~ The largest eggs on earth are laid by sharks.

~ The Boston University Bridge (Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts) is the only place in the world where a boat can sail under a train, driving under a car, driving under a plane.

~ Only 4% of babies are born on their actual "due" date.

~ A duck's quack does not echo.  It is not known why.

~ The electric chair was invented by a dentist.

~ The first novel ever written on a typewriter was Tom Sawyer.

~ The term "mind your p's and q's" was derived from English pubs where ale (beer) is ordered by pints and quarts.  When patrons would get unruly bartenders would settle them down by telling them to "mind their pints and quarts".

~ The term "rule of thumb" is derived from an Old English law.  Men were not allowed to beat their wives with anything wider than the width of their thumbs!

Alright Smackers, go enjoy your weekend!  Hope you enjoyed the completely useless and random factoids!

You are not right in the head! HA! But I love you for it!

That bridge thing was seriously awesome!

I'm pretty sure one Penny ways more than an ounce.
At least the one I knew in High School did.

How does a car drive under a plain? Are there tunnels in Kansas?

Okay...now if you don't mind, I'm going back to beating my wife with a Louisville slugger.

WHAT?! I HAVE BIG THUMBS! GEEZ!

Plus, the name just says it all...."slugger".

Duck's quack does not echo? Does Daffy know this? This might burst her wacky bubble!

*grin*

I love that Tom Sawyer was the first novel written on a typewriter. One more reason that Mark Twain is my hero.

Electric chair,...Dentist? Well that explains it then, does't it?

I knew that. Some of it, at least.

I serve beer in pint and quart jars. Just sayin'...

P.S. Do you know how many people look at me funny when I ask them if they want a pint or quart?!?! So many people don't know which is bigger.

I love them all. Random knowledge makes me very happy. Perhaps because I am a nerd. Perhaps because I have ADD. Either way, your post gave me a happy today. Thanks!

So if we take Daffy to the Grand Canyon she won't echo? huh interesting.

Lame I know - I blame the martinis.

And that is exactly why people hate dentists. Sadistic bastards!

Sharks lay eggs???!! I totally googled this b/c I couldn't beleive it. LOL Apparently it happens. Who knew!
Thanks for the comment love on Shell's BFF. I hear what you're saying about using the 'free time' for new friends when you've been waiting to see old ones. You're right, it's not likely.

Well duh! The quack doesn't echo cause its really more like a snort.

And I thought one of them read "Nine penises weigh...."

Had to read it twice

Then snort

Which did not echo

*big cheese grin*

Oh my! I'm very intrigued the rule of thumb! I'm seriously sitting here thinking how Hubs can beat me with something that's smaller than his thumb! To my shock, there are a lot of things i can think of!!
