BEA U TEEEEEEEEEFUL

Friday, July 16, 2010

On Monday I posted 15 things that I loved about myself.  When I did, being the inactive me that I am I thought it would be a fun way to get to know some of you Smackers better so I challenged you to do the same.  To be honest with you, the response to this was a little shocking and overwhelming.

I received several comments, but I received more emails than I did comments.  Some positive and some that hurt my heart.  I didn't receive any hate emails, simmer down and don't get your panties in a wad.  I received emails telling me how much they liked my post, and how they wish they could be "like me."  Then they would go on to say that they couldn't come up with even a few things to list about themselves that they liked, let alone 15 that they loved.  I had one that told me she didn't love anything about herself.

*sobs*

Smackers, that hurts my truly heart.  Everyone in this world deserves to be happy.  Everyone deserves to know that they are special.  EVERYONE DESERVES TO BE LOVED, especially by themselves!

I want to highlight the gals who accepted my challenge.  Each and everyone of them shared personal things, and then commented about how freeing the whole exercise of writing them down was.  I wouldn't steer you wrong Smackers!  It really is something you should do for yourself.  If you don't share with us, that's fine.  Just do it for you.  It can be silly, crazy, grumpy, whatever, but write it out and tell yourself, that's me and I'm o.k. with that.  All those things make you who you are.

One of my bb chat girls asked if I was going to make this a weekly thing.  I thought what a great idea.  I certainly couldn't expect that.  However, I am committed to finding a way to share things about myself, challenge others to do the same, and hopefully inspire some self esteem in there somewhere.  I'm not sure yet what we will do or even how we will do it, but, if I can help or inspire even one woman, man or child to feel better about who they are, then I will sleep happy at night.

Slacker Mom over at Diary of a Slacker Mom shared her list.

Hillbilly Duhn over at Hillbilly Duhn's Times & Tribulations shared her list.

Dee over at Homesick Cajun shared her list. (it's below the post-it notes.)

Buffee over at the Truth According to Buffee shared her list.

Stephanie who lives in The Blue Zoo shared her list.

Shell from Things I Can't Say shared her list in the comments of my original post!  I really LOVE that!

I have had several more of you tell me you were working on yours.  I will link you up next week.

Please go visit and show the ladies above that they are BEAUTIFUL!

I know that society tells us we should all be a certain way, this is beauty, that is not.  I tell you this Smackers, I see beauty everywhere I look.  It's the differences that make us beautiful.  It's the differences that make us SPECIAL.

If you have never seen the video that goes with Beautiful by Christina Aguilera I have included it below.  The words to the song are powerful and move me no matter how many times I hear them.

Happy Weekend Smackers!

Of course I missed that post cause let's face it, I suck, swallow, and spit but I think that's a great idea. As to not saturate it, you can pick different topics each week like - this is what I like about me - on vacation - at home - with BDC - or this is what I like about my kids - my friends - my blog friends....etc...go for it. Make it a meme.

I think it's a positive step in a blog world of too much negativity these days that people need. I'd link up to it fo shizzle.

It hurts my heart that there are some ladies who don't have one thing that they like about themselves!

I will do mine for someday next week!

I recently entered a writing contest and my piece was exactly this. I so SO SO wish I could share it now. (though I don't want to do to judging and loosing the win) BUT I'm so tempted, because I wrote about my self esteem and how I felt so low about myself and how I've been bringing myself up one day at a time. It's perfect for those people out there who just having you say didn't find one thing, made my heart ache. If I can empower one person in the world to feel good about themselves it would make my heart sing.

I loved that post, and this one made me ache. I want to hug them.

Oh my, I do believe I needed to read this. I've been out of the blog world mostly and haven't read your 15 things list yet, but my immediate reaction was that it would be impossible for me to come up with anything. The funny thing is that I was thinking very recently about sharing more about the real me on my blog. (As if anyone would care). Hopefully focusing on the positive rather than the negative which seems to be the only thing I write about. I'm off to read your 15 things.

SMACKERS-I love that term. ;)

I would write about the things I love about me, but the post would go on forever.

I think I might have to do this next week.
It hurts my heart too when people don't love themselves, but I can relate to how they feel because I went through a lot of that myself. Even if making a list like this takes a month, it's really something that everyone should do. Just a small step in the right direction. :)

I love how positive this is.

And I'm sorry that some people can't think of anything positive. :(

And I'm also sorry that I'm a dork who did my list in your comments- though actually, I think that being a dork is one of my better qualities.

Most days I think I'm awesome, but when I sat down to do this the other day, I couldn't think of 15 things. So, I scrapped it...maybe I'll get back to work on it! You're right, everyone needs to love themselves first and foremost and loving others (and being loved) will follow. LOVE makes the world Mo'betta :)

I love Ian's idea. I would be on board with that for sure...it got away from me this week. But I do love myself, and hope others see how amazing they are as well.

aawww...I'm super late! I'm still going to post my list!

I love this post! You are so right! I love myself a little too much, sometimes...LOL!

I can't help it. I have a man, who calls me sexy and beautiful all the time! He likes to grab my goodies and fondle every chance he gets! That right there builds a lot of self-esteem!

I think it's important to keep away from people who try to make you feel bad about yourself. I had a "best friend" who was like that and I finally realized it. (oh man...this is a blog post right right here!).

I'm heading over to the bloggers posts and read their list!!
