Share a Spoon Theme - Fall Favorites

"Fall Favorites"

Images provided via Google Images.

There was the first inkling of Fall in the air here in the Sunshine State this weekend!  It was wonderful.  Chilly at night and in the morning.  Sunshine in the afternoon with a light breeze and no humidity.  You could smell Fall in the air.  I picked up Kooper from a birthday party he attended Saturday night and we rode home with the windows down.  The smell of bonfires and grilling filled the car as we drove and I drank it in.

I thought this week I would open up Share a Spoon to you all to share your favorite tastes of Fall.  It can be anything you like, a Fall squash recipe, PUMPKIN anything.  Sweet potatoes, potato hash, baked goods, whatever screams Fall to you.

We spent the evening making sugar cookies.  Pumpkins, owls and brooms, cats, witches and Fall leaves.  So much fun.  The kids had a blast cutting out the cookies and painting them orange with icing.  Those are the things I love about this season.  It's so hot in the Summer we can't bake without sweltering.

Thursday bring your FALL FAVORITES out and Share with us!!

"Souper Size Me"

It is officially Fall.  You really couldn't tell by the weather this week in FL.  It's been humid....yucky, sticky, nasty humid.  Not as blistering hot as it is in the height of the summer scorching sizzlers but, nasty nevertheless.  Despite the wet warm blanket feeling weather, I know Fall is here.  Football is on.  Last week was the premier of the new television seasons.  Every store is already decorating for Christmas.  Don't get me side track going off about that!

Anycommercialismtravesty, my favorite thing to eat when it starts getting a bit chilly is SOUP!  There is nothing more belly warming and comforting than a big homemade bowl of soup.  We do eat it year round, regardless of the heat outside, but I have to say....I love it more in the Fall!

My good friend Andrea from Good Girl Gone Redneck asked for this week's theme.  Apparently she has some souper yummy chowder recipe to share with us!  OH YES SHE DOES!  So...I know all of you NORTH of say the equator are dusting off your favorite soup recipes already, since you are already enjoying a little bite in the air.  This Thursday, I expect....nay...DEMAND some participation.

Also....?  I apologize for taking last week off.  I was dragging my badonkadonk last week.  Getting back on schedule, juggling work, kids, family, blogging, running after a toddler, cooking, cleaning, and a laundry list of other things...including the dreaded laundry caught up with me.  I went to bed at a reasonable hour every night because I literally could not keep my eyes open any longer.  I think I have finally gotten back on a normal schedule though!  It remains to be seen....but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Smackers, it's that time of year again!  Finally!  Kids are back to school.  The weather will soon be changing!  THANK GOODNESS!  The heat this summer has been brutal.  We are officially entering into my favorite time of the year though.  You all know just how much I love Fall.  If you are new here?  I am all about September through December!  I am just a cool season kind of gal!

Big news....Momma finally got a job.  So in addition to the hustle and bustle of getting the kids off to school in the mornings, I'll be rushing out the door myself.  That is the inspiration for this week's theme.  The rush of the mornings.

I am a HUGE Jaime Oliver fan!  His Food Revolution is INSPIRING to say the least.  My boys don't eat school lunches because I don't approve of the food they serve.  That means, in addition to making sure that my kids eat a healthy breakfast, we are packing lunches as well.

I'm creative, but let's face it....in the morning?  Rushing with two ADHD boys? And a toddler?  Not to mention my ADD?  It's a train wreck to put it mildly.  However, I will not sacrifice their healthy lunches or breakfasts.  So...on that note, this week we will be sharing fun, quick and healthy meal ideas for breakfast and lunch with Back to School in mind!

Get your fun ideas together and ready to SHARE on Thursday.  I have a fun Back to School giveaway this week and everyone who participates in Share a Spoon gets extra entries!!!!  Everyone has that one go to quick meal they are proud of so bring them to the party!!

It's Theme Time Smackers!

"Let's Spoon"

So remember that Gevalia giveaway a couple of weeks ago?  Well, I asked for themes from you all, in exchange for extra entries.  This theme actually came from those entries.   Eclairre asked for a "Spoons" theme.  That's right...food's you eat with a spoon!

At first I was a little iffy about a theme of spoon foods.  Why?  Well, my mind went directly to pudding, jello, etc.  Many of you know, but for those that don't, I have texture issues when it comes to food.  Not a fan of jello or pudding.   After going directly to a place my mind was uncomfortable, warm sunshine filled my mind and suddenly I was swimming in the sweet warm bowl of soup.  *lightbulb moment*

Yes...let's spoon!  After my momentary mental block I realized we could do a theme for spoons.  There are soups you eat with a spoon.  Ice cream is eaten with a spoon.   Cereal is eaten with a spoon.  Yes....there are loads of things we can eat with a spoon.  Plus, it gives you all the latitude to do sweet, savory, breakfast or dessert.  There's a lot of creative freedom in a theme with spoons.

Now, I would like to see some creativity!  Come share your favorite thing to eat with a spoon this week!  You know you want to!  Let's Spoon!

#ShareaSpoon Theme - Split BOOBS

Happy Saturday Smackers!

It's #ShareaSpoon Theme Time!

"BOOBS"

Oh c'mon....that was FUNNY!  We're talking chicken breasts of course!

First things first though....we have some winners to announce!  The two winners of the Gevalia Heritage 1853 Prize packs were Kim of Mo' Betta and EmmaPeel!  Congrats girls!

Now, moving right along...as part of the additional entries for the giveaway I asked for themes.  I asked and you all delivered!  This week's theme is BOOBS!  Chicken boobs.  O.k....split chicken breasts.  This theme comes to us from one of my baking buddies!  Stephanie of Babes Rockin' Mami.  Steph has her own Etsy Bakery.  You can find her Etsy Shop here.  Enter code 'SWEETLOVE' and receive 10% off any order!  That's a SUH-WEET deal on something SWEET for you Smackers!  Who loves you?

Steph fancies herself a baker, but not a cook.  I think they are one and the same!  As a matter of fact, there is way less science (in my humble opinion) in the savory.  I often throw a little of this, a little of that, smidge here, pinch there.  AnyADHDcook, Steph asked for a split breast theme.  She wants to know what we can do with them besides bake them????

NOW...I know every single one of you has recipes for chicken breasts!  It's like the most versatile piece of meat in the kitchen!  I want everyone to link up this week and share your favorite chicken breast recipes.  Come by this Thursday and get some great new recipes too!

I am looking forward to seeing your recipes.  Chicken is my favorite protein.  I could eat chicken every single day and never get tired of it.  I eat chicken breasts in some form at least 4 or 5 times a week.  So BRING IT!  Ya hear me?

"Sweet Treats"

Happy Saturday Smackers!  It's been quite sometime since we had a sweet theme.  I know some of you don't participate in the savory themes but you love to participate in baking!  I thought it was time to give you all a chance to share your confections too!

I guess I am in sweet treats mode anyway.  I made cupcakes for Mini-Me's birthday party last weekend and I made a cake w/cupcakes for a friend as well.  I could have eaten the butter cream frosting with a spoon and been happy!  It was so yummy!

I used black, white and orange fondant to make the penguins.  The cake and cupcakes are covered with a butter cream frosting.  The snow is also butter cream.  I also dusted the blue frosting with a pearl powder so that it glistened like snow.  The little girl this cake was for was thrilled!  She loved the penguins!

So back to theme, this week anything sweet goes.  Cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pies, anything that tickles your fancy or satisfies your sweet tooth!  If you share a recipe this week you also get 5 entries for my Gevalia giveaway!  If you haven't entered yet, get over there and enter!!

See you Smackers on Thursday for sweet sweet treats!!

Share a Spoon Theme

I know I am really late posting theme this week Smackers!  Gimme a break, I was busy and then I haven't felt well for the last couple of days.  Anyexcuses, I have had a couple of requests now for BREAKFAST.  I think it's been long enough since we did a breakfast theme that it's cool to dust this theme off and get some new fun recipes for starting the day off right.

Of course, here at my house, we eat breakfast anytime of the day so...there's that.  I mean seriously?  Is there really such a thing as a bad time for bacon?  Yeah....not in my opinion.

So....even though you are getting late notice, link up this week with your favorite fun breakfast ideas!   I have a fun giveaway and review going up on Thursday as well.  Everyone who participates in Share a Spoon will get some extra entries!!

"Q & E"

The heat is crazy this summer.  We've had record heat all across the country!  I saw on the news that the highways are buckling in Minneapolis due to the crazy heat wave!  Who would have thought it would be hotter in Minnesota than it is in Florida?  That's just madness!  Speaking of Minnesota, 1/3 of The Wonder Triplets, my BFF Kristin of The Only Parent Chronicles picked this week's theme!

Anyheatwave, when it's THAT hot you almost don't want to eat.  Going without isn't exactly healthy, and not really an option when you have kids so we all need some QUICK and EASY go to meals that we can whip up to beat the heat.  That's what this week is all about.  Meals that don't require much effort, because if you're anything like me, the heat sucks all your get up and go right out of you.

Pictures aren't necessary!  If you have a quick and easy go to meal or meals, come share it/them with us this week!  Everyone needs more easy meals in their arsenal!  Be here Thursday and SHARE with us!

Happy Saturday Smackers!

It's Theme Time!

Share a Spoon Theme

"CARB-A-PALOOZA"

This week's theme is my favorite thing.  Seriously.  My favorite thing in the word is bread.  Well, bread and cheese.  Or pasta and cheese.  AND POTATOES!  Oh my how I love potatoes!

The whole low carb movement baffles my mind.  The thought of replacing the bun on a burger with lettuce is just insane to me, because the BUN is my favorite part!  Take the insides and just give me the damn bun!  I'm not kidding.  Go out to dinner?  I'll take the bread basket and dessert.  Yep, I am that person.

Carbs aren't all bad, and they certainly aren't the devil.  Pasta dishes are often low calorie and low fat.  So it's a balance act with diet.  Finding a happy medium.  Really, the truth that we all have to face is everything in moderation is fine.  Problem is, we generally over indulge way too often.  It's hard not to with fresh, hot, steamy bread and warm butter.  *sigh*

Just for this week though, let's indulge the carb lover in us all and share our favorite CARB-A-LICIOUS recipes!  Be it bread, pasta, scalloped potatoes, pain perdu, bread pudding, whatever I don't care.  Just bring on the carbs!!

"Home Sweet Home"

Summer vacations.  It's the season when we either travel away from home, or often, travel to see parents.  Go back home if you will.  Traveling often means road trips.  In order to make good time, we pack bags full of snack foods.  Beef jerky, pretzels, chips and fruits.  Road side stops at greasy spoons and diners. *sigh*

After a long stretch on the road all you really want is a nice hot shower, to sleep in your own bed and a meal that say "HOME SWEET HOME".  On the flip side of that, the anticipation of going home, traveling to your childhood home brings memories of that comfort food mom made, grandma made.  Those things that you can only get the way you remember them when you go home.

That's what this week is all about.  Comfort food that reminds you of HOME!  So break out your mom's old recipes.  Dust off your favorite recipe passed down from Grandma.  That recipe you remember from childhood that just whispers sweetly, "Home Sweet Home".

"Pasta Salad Please"

I asked for theme ideas on Facebook and my friend Gayle asked for pasta salads.  You all know my mantra here on Share a Spoon, ask and ye shall receive!  So she asked, and this week we will deliver!

Pasta is one of the most versatile canvases we have in the kitchen!  You can add anything to pasta.  There are no rules, no wrongs....everything is allllllll riiiiiigggghhhhht with pasta!  I'm a BIG fan could you tell?

There are all sorts of pasta salads.  Macaroni, spaghetti, orzo, quinoa,  couscous, and the list goes on and on!  This week I want all you Smackers to share with us you favorite pasta salad.  Every family has their own special "macaroni" salad.  I want you to share your special recipe, and I'll share mine!

"Red, White and Blue"

Happy Saturday Smackers!  It's that time again.  My favorite holiday is approaching!  I love the 4th of July.  The BBQs, the family gatherings, the parades, the lemonade on a hot day and of course my favorite FIREWORKS!  Mostly though, I love celebrating our freedom.

The freedom that allows me to write whatever I want here.  The freedom that lets me speak freely about whatever I want, whenever I want in any place or forum without fear that I might end up being punished for it.  Is there any better gift in the world?  I don't think so.

This week's theme is all about the big party for celebrating Independence Day. I know it says red, white and blue.  If you have fancy schmancy desserts that are red white and blue, by all means share away.  If you don't,  share your favorite recipe for the big cookout!  Your favorite red or white potato salad.  See how I added the red or white.  Making you think huh?  Perhaps a black and blue burger (Black Angus/Blue Cheese)?

It doesn't really matter if it's red, white and blue.  As long as it's a recipe for a celebration, bring it on!

See you Thursday for some tasty fun recipes!

"Summer Fruit"

There's something wonderful about fruit.  It's sweet and juicy and nature's own way of providing us dessert.  Fruits are low in calories, packed full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.   How great is that?  Good for you and tastes good too?

I decided on this week's theme last night while walking through the produce section of my grocery store.  There were fresh peaches and nectarines that smelled so amazing.  Then there was a sampling station for the fresh berries.  Blueberries and raspberries that were sweet and on sale.  There was a whole section of cut up melons made into fruit bowls.  Everything looked amazeballs!  Mini-me and I had a hard time deciding what to buy.

Summertime produces so much amazing fruit.  I am excited to see what you all post with fruit.  Savory dishes, fruit salad (yummy yummy...Sorry throw back to The Wiggles) fruit salsas, desserts, drinks.  I cannot wait for some more fun recipes!  So make sure you link up this week with your favorites!

"Homemade Take-Out"

I am super excited about this week's theme.  I was talking to my BFFs, the other 2/3 of The Wonder Triplets, Kristin of Only Parent Chronicles and Ducky from Batcrap Crazy.  I asked them for a theme for this week.  Collectively we all agreed take-out made at home would be a really FUN theme.

We all the love the convenience of take out.  However, I personally do not love the calories associated with take out.  Nor do I love the sodium, or the fact that I have no idea what the ingredients are or where they came from.  Hello? Mystery meat?  BLECH!

It really is just as fast to cook many of those things we pick up in drive-thru, or call to have delivered.  It's better for us.   AND?  It's ABSOLUTELY much less expensive to eat at home!  We all could use wallet relief right?

This week is all about what you cook at home that is a take out go to.  Pizza, burger and fries, Chinese, etc.  Share your favorite take out items made at home.  Fewer calories, less expense and waaaaay less guilt!  That's a win in my book!

Summer Garden Fresh

The Memorial Day weekend always marks the start of Summer for everyone.  Summers are full of children, laughter, sun, water and fun.  Being a Florida girl, it means my days are full of HEAT.  One thing is certain, when it's REALLY hot, veggies are about the only thing that sound good.

I had a Twitter conversation this past week with my girl @goodgirlgonered discussing the heat.  I said it was too hot to eat.  My ever faithful @TheBlueZoo told us it's never too hot to eat.  Also, she called us crazy.  We love Steph, we do, but one thing I know for certain is that Steph has no idea what the HUMIDITY will do to an appetite when the heat index is over 100 degrees in the South.

So...SUMMER.  Nothing I love more about summer than the fresh veggies.  Whether you grow your own, go to the Farmer's Market or just visit the local grocery store, Summertime brings out the best in fresh veggies!  Sweet tomatoes.  Cool cucumbers.  Colorful peppers.  Juicy sweet CORN!  My mouth is watering just thinking about all the crisp, fresh, yummy goodness!

This week, it's all about FRESH SUMMER VEGGIES!  I want your favorite recipes.  I don't care if it's salads, sides, grilled, cooked, whatever!  Just share your favorites!  See you Thursday for some GARDEN GOODNESS!

Next weekend many people will be traveling for the Memorial Day weekend.    There will be picnics, grill parties, lots of family togetherness, friends, libations and food.  Sounds fabulous right?

We usually have a family shindig which includes grilled something, whether it be hot dogs, sausages, burgers, kabobs, or steaks.  We usually grill something.  Even when we decide to go for a picnic, we usually pick a park where there are grills available.  Pack a cooler full of sides and drinks and call it PICNIC!

So, for this week's theme I thought we could all share our favorite foods for the Memorial Day festivities.  Hopefully we'll all get some fun sides, drinks, grill ideas, and desserts for next weekend!

So pack up your favorite picnic recipes this week and bring them to Share on Thursday!

"CEREAL"

I was looking back through some email requests to make sure that I covered everything you Smackers have asked to see here on Share a Spoon, and what do you know...I found a theme for this week.  My faithful Share a Spoon contributor and amazing friend Stephanie over at The Blue Zoo suggested a theme we haven't done yet.

Steph says "Everyone uses cereal in some sort of recipe whether its a savory dish, or cookies, or a snack mix. Cereal is more than just a quick breakfast!"  She's right too.  People put Corn Flakes on top of casseroles.  People crush it up and use it on chicken like bread crumbs.  Rice Crispies make yummy marshmallow treats, but many people use their favorite sugary cereals for fun snacks.  Chex Mix is famous for the ultimate snack mix.

So...this week, share your favorite recipe with us that includes a breakfast cereal!  Sweet, savory, snack, doesn't matter as long as it includes cereal!  If you make your own cereal with fruits, nuts, grains, etc....share that if you like too!

I know I'm late with the theme.  Cut me some slack, it was a crazy weekend, Mother's Day, and I'm never late.  ;P
